Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Santa! Santa is a beautiful Iguana looking for their next adventure! Iguanas are tropical animals and can't live in a climate below 75 degrees (ideal temperature is 95 degrees). This means that the heat and UVB bulbs for their enclosure should reach around 120 degrees. They should also be placed at the top of the enclosure, as that is where the parietal eye is located that helps them regulate their body heat. Their habitats should also have at least 70% humidity at all times. Iguanas need large, custom built enclosures (that are a minimum of 12 feet long and six feet wide) filled with shelves and branches for them to climb and bask in the heat. Iguanas have sharp claws and love climbing, so you'll need to wear protective clothes when handling and socializing them. Santa would do best with older children due to their strength and size (the average iguana is 5-6ft long from their nose to the tip of their tail and between 10-20lbs). Iguanas are strictly herbivores and will need dark leafy greens, some fruit, and calcium supplements to give them a balanced diet. Last but not least, iguanas live between 15-20 years, so Santa will be around for a long time to come! We recommend doing plenty of research before deciding to bring an iguana home. If you are interested in adopting Santa, come down to our San Diego Campus today and ask about them today!
