How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by a Good Samaritan on December 3, 2020.
At SDHS: This pet has been receiving excellent care!
Why this pet is the one for you: Jo is a lovely little dove who's looking for a new roost! Jo is a lovely little dove who's looking for a human who isn't afraid of commitment. Jo arrived at SDHS after flying into a window and injuring her wing. After receiving lots of TLC from our vet staff she's feeling great! Although her wing is a bit droopy, we think it gives her character! Jo lived alone at SDHS for along time until we decided to introduce her to our other ring neck dove Jelly. These two hit it off right away! It's been such a joy to see them come to life now that they have companionship. Jo and Jelly will now be looking for a home together. With proper care Doves can live for 20 years! Doves are mellow, and good natured creatures who are intelligent, quiet, and social! Doves form close bonds with their humans however, they are communal and are happiest when they have dove companions as well. When they're not spending time with their human, they will need a large flight cage at least 62" high, 32" wide, and 21" deep (although Jo may do best in a cage that is more horizontal than vertical). These feathered darlings are manifesting a home where they can happily, nap, sunbath, nest, and flirt with their human/avian friends. They will need a high quality pigeon grain mix as well as yummy millet sprays, greens, and minced veggies for treats!
