How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by their previous owner on March 14, 2021.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

Why this pet is the one for you:
Scout is a handsome man who's looking for a soft place to land. German Shepherds, like many guardian breeds, can often be stand-offish with new people. Once they have decided you're a friend, shepherds are generally very loyal and loving dogs. Scout is at least partially blind. Our wonderful vet team discovered that Scout has an autoimmune disease that directs an inappropriate immune response against the tissues of the cornea which is why this dashing dude bumps into things sometimes! Although Scout will need to stay on medicine for this his whole life, dogs are amazing beings who can adapt to anything! Scout may have a disability, but he's still a shepherd! Shepherds were bred to be working dogs so they have endless drive and energy. Scout's ideal adopter would be with a guardian breed savvy human who will be committed to finding creative ways to keep Scout mentally and physically stimulated regardless of his disability. Daily exercise and routine will be an essential part of his care. Scout is a sweet guy, but he can be a bit rough. We think he will do best in a home with older kids and adults.
